A product that fertilizes crops and sequesters CO2 at the same time.

About the Technology

Mafix addresses two converging global challenges at once: soil degradation that lowers agricultural productivity and the urgent need for scalable, durable carbon removal. Our solution is a new, highly effective fertilizer produced using an energy-efficient thermal process that transforms abundant rocks into fast-weathering minerals that also supply agricultural nutrients.

Our material functions similarly to existing enhanced rock weathering (ERW) materials, but works far faster. When applied to soils, Mafix’s fertilizer dissolves within a single growing season to deliver increased yield and soil health while removing up to one net ton of CO₂ per ton of material, far outperforming conventional ERW. Our product is already being tested at 11 field sites in the U.S. and Germany, where we’ve validated both rapid weathering and increases to plant-available silicon nutrients.

Mafix’s process can be scaled quickly using spare capacity with existing cement kiln infrastructure in the construction industry.

Our time with the HIT Fund will allow us to finalize the manufacturing process and dial in the right granule size, key derisking steps as we seek offtake agreements with our first customers. In addition we are refining our GTM strategy, mapping the supply chain, identifying the early pilot sites, establishing long term supply relationships, and securing a strategic off-take agreement.
