About the Technology

Contact dermatitis (CD) is a common, treatable skin condition that can be diagnosed with a simple allergen patch test. Conducting this test is difficult for two reasons: Few locations offer them, and the test requires multiple visits over the course of a few days. If patients could do the tests themselves and then send images to doctors, we could solve both problems at once, addressing the 98% of chronic eczema patients who never get patch tested.

Our approach combines an innovative method of applying and removing allergen patches with a mobile app that guides patients through the process of allergen testing and image capture. With sequential images of allergen application sites, general practitioners can make AI-enhanced assessments, provide timely interventions, and assess the need for specialist referrals. Our technology will make CD testing, currently offered in only 20% of metropolitan and 1% of non-metropolitan counties in the U.S., widely available.

Working with the HIT Fund, the team will continue to develop and validate the platform as we pursue clinical trials to secure FDA approval. In addition, we’ll begin customer discovery and identify strategic partners to help bring our CD diagnosis solution to market.
